District 5 Foundation’s Paula Hite visited The Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo’s weekly breakfast meeting.  The District 5 Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that exists to support teachers and students in Lexington/Richland District 5 in learning readiness, arts and cultural experiences, science and technology and leadership development.  Paula spoke to us about the District 5 Foundation’s Flood Victims Fund.  The Flood Victims Fund has been established to serve students and families impacted by the devastating floods and their aftermath.  There are 200 plus families affected in our district.  They have successfully raised over $75,000 to aid in this relief work.  All money raised goes directly to flood victims.  District social workers identify need within our school district and oversee the distribution of funds.  So far monies raised have gone towards things such as deposits on rental apartments as well as paid for hotel stays and other basic supplies such as mattresses.  Club President Harold Crawford presented Paula Hite with a check for $2500.  We look forward to a continued partnership with District 5 Foundation and supporting their great work.  If you want more information on the foundation or the Flood Victims Fund please visit district5foundation.org
