Rotary Around the Globe
On the world scene each year, Rotary International members invest more than $200 million and 16 million volunteer hours to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, improve the health of mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies.
The Rotary Foundation’s Number ONE priority is the eradication of Polio from the earth. Since the program began in 1985, Rotary has contributed more than $1.7 billion and countless volunteer hours to immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries. In addition, Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by donor governments and private organizations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to contribute more than $7.2 billion to the effort.
Polio Today – there are only two countries that have never stopped transmission of the wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan. Just 37 polio cases were confirmed worldwide in 2016. THAT is a reduction of more than 99.9 percent since the 1980s, when the world saw about 1,000 children paralyzed “per day .” We will not stop til it’s gone.
· Of note is the PolioPlus infrastructure throughout the world helped immensely in the fight against Covid 19. We have restarted our PolioPlus campaign while continuing to support the Covid 19 efforts.
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
The development of acquaintance as an opportunity of service;
High Ethical standards in Business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to service society;
The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
The advancement of international understanding, good will, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
THE FOUR WAY TEST
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIP?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
