Saturday, February 9th we had a great turn out to pick up our adopted road Farming Creek Rd. As always we had breakfast beforehand. 9 Rotarians and 1 Volunteer gave up some of their morning to participate. We enjoyed doing our part to make the Midlands a greener, cleaner place to live, work and play.
Rev. James Cubie was inducted as a new member of the Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo. Rev. Cubie is an Evangelist at Foundation Church at Dutch Fork. Rev. Cubie was sponsored by President Kevin Meetze. The membership is excited to welcome Rev. Cubie as a new member of our club.
Our speaker for Wednesday, February 6th will be Mr. Charlie Donato. Mr. Donato is from Dominion Energy and he will be speaking to us about the new happening with the merger and Dominions future here in the Midlands. Please join us tomorrow morning and hear Mr. Donato speak.
On Wednesday, January 16th, Maurice Simpkins a 5th grader from Nursery Roade Elementary was recognized for being the Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo Student of the Month. He was present with his parents, older sister and his twin sister, as well as, her principal Ms. Love Ligons. He is always going above and beyond to make others feel important and loves serving. Thank you to Sonic of Ballentine for sponsoring our student-of-the-month program.
We will not have a rotary meeting on Wednesday, December 26th or Wednesday, January 2nd. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, January 9th. See everyone in the New Year!
Our speaker Wednesday, October 17th was Mr. Eddie Edstein. Mr. Edstein is from Australia and is the father of club member Jacq Buck. He spoke to the club about the time he spent in the Australian Army and foreign services. He spent 23 years in the army and 12 years working for the foreign services. He also kept the club awake and laughing this morning with a few jokes. The Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo appreciated Mr.Edstein being our guest this morning.
On Wednesday, October 17th, Elaina Whalen a 4th grader from Leaphart Elementary School was recognized for being the Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo Student of the Month. She was present with her grandmother as well as, her principal Ms. Courtney Long. She is always striving to be a good student. Thank you to Sonic of Ballentine for sponsoring our student-of-the-month program.
On Wednesday, October 10th Jim Jeffers received the award and pin for the Paul Harris Society. To be apart of the Paul Harris Society the rotary member commits to give a $1,000 per year. This money in return goes to help the Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation is then able to give out grants and funds for varies service projects both stateside and international. The Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo is honored to have such committed members.
