District Foundation Chair Sandee Brooks

Speaker last week was District 7770 Foundation Chair Sandee Brooks.  Sandee shared her experience of participating in an NID (National Immunization Day) in India last year.

Not only do you immunize kids, you also spread awareness about the pros and cons of Polio.  In addition to participating in NID, we also traveled around India and saw some beautiful sights. However, the most rewarding part of the trip was talking about and doing something about eradicating Polio.

Past President Kevin Meetze getting “Best BY Dam Site” award from President Baldwin

President Kevin’s reflections on a his year include a successful 30th Anniversary Celebration at the Palmetto Club. We had over 100 Rotarians, spouses and past members attend the celebration. Scott Brawley, our founding President came up from Charleston. RIPVP Dr. Anne Matthews was our keynote speaker. “My biggest take away from the evening was that our club was founded on inclusivity of any person wanting to serve others through friendship” said President Kevin.

President Kevin’s membership goal was to reach 60 members. Although the club added 10 new members, 6 members resigned…we are 58 strong. Hopefully President Jeff will reach the 60 member goal early in his year.

President Kevin Meetze presented highlights of a very successful Rotary Year.

We had successful Service Projects: 3 Adopt a Highway clean-ups, One Island clean-up, Okra Strut Parade and Festival, Rang the Bell for Salvation Army, Attended World Polio Day at Statehouse, joined other Rotarians to attempt the largest gathering at a State Fair and Meals on Wheels.

We had 80% of our members volunteer for over 600 hours of service!!

We raised money: $1,510 from Belk Sales, $7,682 from BBQ Sales, $1,000 from Okra Strut, $27,000 from Golf Tournament…taking out expenses, we netted $27,400.

We gave money: $1,500 to CART, $1,500 to PolioPlus, $375 to Keep the Midlands Beautiful, $1,000+ to Rise Against Hunger, $1,000 to Snack Pack Program, $3,000 Meals on Wheels Program, $10,000 to ICRC for the Boat Swing at the All-Inclusive Playground, and $1,000 to District 5 Scholarships. We exceeded our Annual Fund to Rotary by 15% and our club per capita giving was $237.00 (the District goal as $180).

And we celebrated our 30th Anniversary. It was a successful year. Congratulations and thank you Lake Murray/Irmo Rotarians.
